ELECTIONS UPDATE TO THE LIBERIAN COMMUNITY, WASHINGTON, D.C. METRO AREA

Greetings! The Elections Commission is proud to announce that after significant delay in the elections due to the lack of interest from candidates and the community, we have received submission packages from two separate camps to compete for the community's leadership. The positions up for elections are President, Vice President, General Secretary, Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Chaplain, Parlimetarian, and two ULAA Representatives.

The candidates have reached out to the community and received the necessary endorsements to qualify them to contest for the positions. The Elections Commission is currently reviewing the submissions based on the LCA's Election Guidelines and will confirm and announce the qualified candiates to the general public on February 24, 2008. If our schedule flows according to plan, below are the various activities related to the elections:

The Elections Commission requests that all members of the community make an effort to participate in the 2008 elections. If you would like to register to vote, please stop by Kendejah Restaurant (202-291-7541/1565), 5828 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington, DC 2001, speak to Comfort Bowier or Angeline Pratt, pay your $15 voting fees, and receive a receipt. As an alternative, Registration On Wheels is provided if you call the Elections Commission at 202-341-8930 for an appointment.

This election is very significant to our community as it is symbolizes and mirrors the recovery of Liberians everywhere. It is no secret that the community association in the Washinton DC Metro Area has been handicapped by the lack of participation from all sectors of the community. This election gives the community a chance to be re-engaged and decide the way forward. The Elections Commission looks forward to working collaboratively with you and the candidates to ensure a highly participative, fair, unbiased, and fluid 2008 elections for the community.

Sincerely,

Isaac Vah Tukpah, Jr.
