Greetings!  The Elections Commission would like to remind you that March 9, 2008 is the day your candidates of choice would like for you to come to the polls.  Thursday, March 6, 2008 is the LAST day of voter's registration.  The Elections Commission requests that all members of the community make an effort to participate in the 2008 elections. If you would like to register to vote, please stop by Kendejah Restaurant (202-291-7541/1565), 5828 Georgia Avenue NW, Washington, DC 2001, speak to Comfort Bowier or Angeline Pratt, pay your $15 voting fees, and receive a receipt. As an alternative, Registration On Wheels is provided if you call the Elections Commission at 202-341-8930 for an appointment.

The ELECTIONS will be conducted at Long Branch Community Center, 8700 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring, Maryland 20901.  The front desk number at the center is 301-431-5702.

The elections will take place on March 9, 2008 from 1:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.  Absolutely no voting will take place after 7:00 p.m. EST.  The tentative agenda for the election is as follows:

VOTING REQUIREMENTS

 

  1. Each registered voter will be formally identified at the polls according to the following voters eligibility:

a)      You must be a registered voter in good standing and must be current with payment of $15 voter registration fee

 

b)      You must be a Liberian citizen/national or a spouse of a Liberian citizen/national who resides within DC Metro Area prior to February 10, 2008

 

c)      You must have either:

§         a valid Maryland, Virginia, or District of Columbia driver’s license or identification card; or

§          a photo ID and a recent utility/service bill, lease agreement, or student ID from a Metro Area institution

 

ELECTIONS RULES

 

1.      Only Registered voters will be allowed in the VOTING AREA.

2.      Each voter will be identified based on official voters registration list and personal identification.

3.      Each voter is entitled to ONE vote.

4.      Each Camp is entitled to a maximum of two (2) representatives to work with the Elections Commission in monitoring and assistance role(s).
